About Clinical Nutrition

Lasting health changes rarely come from another restrictive diet. They come from understanding what’s actually driving your symptoms.

At pH Clinic, we offer clinical nutrition but with a holistic view. We believe that health comes from not only eating the right food, but also by making sure the mind and the body are all healthy and nourished too. There is no quick fix. We dig deep, look for the underlying issues and help you to resolve them from the inside out, rather than trying to mask or cover up the symptoms.

Our Clinical Nutritionist Maeve brings a particular focus on gut health, metabolic disease and cognitive wellbeing, using comprehensive testing and structured, evidence-informed protocols to get to the root of long-standing health concerns.

Benefits of Nutritional Medicine

Nutritional medicine may assist with:

What can you expect from a nutrition consult?

Your nutritionist will take a comprehensive case history of your health, assess your diet and lifestyle including potential nutritional deficiencies, and of course discuss your goals and how we can achieve these for you.

We use evidence based nutrition and testing to create a tailored treatment plan to help you reach your goals. You will be given continuous support and guidance by your nutritionist to help motivate and encourage you on your journey.

When indicated we use diagnostic testing to investigate your health concerns further. This may include blood pathology, extensive thyroid function tests, comprehensive digestive & stool analysis, and food intolerance testing. Maeve has extensive experience interpreting Nutripath and BioScreen testing, using these results to build structured, multi-month gut restoration protocols where needed.

You will be asked to complete a client form to help your practitioner get a comprehensive case history of your health, diet and lifestyle.
Your nutritionist will gain a thorough understanding of your whole health picture; including exploring your current health symptoms, all body systems, your physical health, emotional wellbeing, habits, lifestyle, health goals and so much more. You will then receive a personalised treatment plan, which may include dietary advice, nutritional supplement recommendations (if needed), lifestyle and emotional health practices to optimise your health and allow your body and mind to thrive. For clients with metabolic or blood sugar concerns, this may include ketogenic or therapeutic low-carbohydrate approaches where appropriate.

You will be asked to come back in for a follow up consultation so that your nutritionist can see how you’ve been progressing with your treatment and if there are any changes that need to be made. Throughout the whole process, you’ll be given guidance and support by your nutritionist to help motivate and encourage you on your journey.

pH Clinic Nutritional Medicine Testimonials

“Thank you so much Maeve. I had been in pain for more than 5 years, and I only reached out for help when I became afraid every time I had to eat something. Your treatment was literally a life saver. The pain, cramping, bloating, rushing to the bathroom is all gone and I feel as if I have reclaimed my life..”

“I saw Maeve for both my son and myself. I personally had weight loss and gain, horrible periods, mood issues, and a bit of anxiety. Maeve gave me an in-depth assessment, treatment and education which was customised to my lifestyle. Now I feel great, I look alright (LOL) and I’m more in tune with my body. My anxiety has turned into energy and I understand how to make good choices for myself. You made it easy for someone who doesn’t like to cook or to diet. Probably the best experience though was for my young son. You went down every path to ensure we looked at each angle of his health and how it was related to his diet, body type and allergies. The outcome is that I feel I can manage my son’s needs and my ‘mum worry’ is GONE! That’s worth gold right there. Thank you from the bottom of our family’s heart! ”

“Maeve of Nutriffic is one of a kind nutritionist! I am deeply grateful that I went to see Maeve for a consultation when I did. Being a busy working mum and always on the go, it was important for me to prioritise my health and get the right advice from the right professional. Through her comprehensive questioning of my diet and lifestyle choices, she was able to immediately identify the causes to my poor gut health. She supplied me with a plan to make small and simple changes to my diet that has made a world of difference. It’s amazing that knowing what the right foods to put in your body can greatly improve every aspect of your life. Maeve is so warm and genuine; it was very easy to open up to her. She helped me to uncover a more serious health issue and I can truly say that she saved my life! She is very passionate about nutrition and has a great depth of knowledge in this field. She is very dedicated to her clients with follow-up calls and additional suggestions. I cannot recommend Maeve more highly enough!”

Nutritional Medicine FAQs

There’s no such thing as a silly question, especially when your health is concerned. Here are some of our nutritional medicine FAQs. For any other advice on love, life and colonics drop us a line.

This is dependent on each individual – our treatment is all tailored to you. Treatment length is determined by how chronic the health condition, how you’re responding to treatment, your commitment levels and also how much support you require. We generally recommend a follow up appointment about 3 weeks after your initial, where we go through your personalised treatment plan. Then appointments may be spaced out every 4-6 weeks depending on your requirements. Most treatments need a minimum commitment of at least 3 months to see any long term changes, however we will discuss all of this in your appointment.

We will work with you to find the most realistic plan, and each session empowers you with a lifetime knowledge to maintain optimal health ongoing.

If you have any recent (last 6 months) testing including blood tests, any relevant scans or other investigations please bring a copy with you to your initial appointment.

We will then assess if any further testing may be needed. We always like to see up to date pathology tests which we can help you organise. And sometimes require further investigations to identify the underlying drivers to your health concerns in order to get the most effective results. Some common tests include:

  • Nutripath, GI Map and BioScreen functional testing
  • Food Tolerance Testing
  • Full Thyroid Function Test
  • Urinary Iodine Levels
  • Hair Mineral Analysis
  • Heavy Metal Testing
  • Coeliac Genotype and Serology
  • MTHFR and other genetic testing
  • Hormone Profiles: Sex and Adrenal hormones
  • Plasmalogen testing

We select the most suitable GI Micobial testing for the client – we commonly use Nutripath CDSA, Bioscreen or Designs for Health GI-Map testing.. Assessing GI health with the proper tools like this can help us get to the root cause of chronic illness and all of your digestive issues.

Almost every patient can benefit from a gut health assessment. Some patients are looking to achieve optimal health, while other patients have been chronically ill and frustrated without a diagnosis for years. Conditions where GI Microbial testing esting can support clinical diagnosis and treatment needs are:

  • IBS/IBD
  • Digestive complaints: diarrhea and/or constipation
  • Autoimmune Conditions
  • Brain Fog
  • Inflammatory conditions
  • Skin problems like acne and psoriasis
  • Mood disorders, anxiety and depression
  • Diabetes and weight loss issues

A Nutritionist within Australia is an accredited health practitioner who has completed a minimum of 3 years study at a University or accredited College. They generally have an Advanced Diploma or Degree in Nutritional Medicine and are industry regulated.

A Nutritionist takes a holistic approach to your health; looking at diet, lifestyle and nutritional deficiencies, and works to identify any underlying drivers to your health concerns. That way we can address the root cause, rather than just treating symptoms, giving you long term change.

You will gain understanding of your current health condition and how your lifestyle, diet, nutrient deficiencies and imbalances within your body are affecting your health. When working alongside a nutritionist over a minimum of a 6-12 month period you can hope to see changes in your symptoms and current health status.

In your first consult, the practitioner will go over your entire health history and current health status. It is important that no details are missed as these can help to identify possible causes to symptoms you are experiencing. Then, if necessary, you may be required to receive some functional testing such as blood tests, food allergy testing, stool analysis etc. You will receive a personalised treatment plan and advice around diet, lifestyle and supplements if indicated, to help support your body in healing itself. In each follow up your progress is monitored, we review supplements, food diaries, take measurements if required and step you through your treatment plan so all of your goals are achieved.

A Nutritionist can help to support the body in all health conditions, however our expertise can be very beneficial for:

  • Weight loss
  • Digestive issues such as IBS/IBD, or any digestive complaints
  • Food intolerances and/or allergies
  • Metabolic issues like insulin resistance, diabetes, gestational diabetes
  • Thyroid conditions like hypothyroidism and Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis
  • Autoimmune and inflammatory conditions
  • Cognitive concerns like brain fog and ADD/ADHD

Yes we definitely do! We can offer a variety of meal plans, recipes and resources for you. From personalised ones to support your goals whatever they may be, weight loss, specialised diets like gluten free or dairy free diets, or ketogenic and therapeutic low-carbohydrate approaches. Whatever your goals are, we will provide personalised dietary advice and resources for you.

Nutritionists do the same training as Naturopaths with the exception of herbal medicine. Both practitioners practice integrative natural medicine, recommend dietary changes, supplements and conduct whole body testing.

Yes, depending on which health fund you are with and the level of cover you have (usually need to have ‘Extras’ which covers Nutrition and/or Natural Health), then you should be able to get a health care rebate for your appointments. You will pay for the appointment on the day, a receipt with our provider numbers is provided so you can submit your claim and your health fund will refund the rebate directly into your account.

Generally not, unless your Private Health Cover Extras cover specifically states it.

No you cannot. We do try and get as many tests Medicare covered for you as we can, and always discuss these tests along with any additional costs in your appointment.
