Explore the incredible health benefits of infrared sauna and how it can help your body rid itself of harmful heavy metals.
Do you wipe your sweat off during an infrared sauna? If not keep reading as this information could be quiet eye opening for you!
When you sweat in the sauna, you release toxins and heavy metals from the body. When you wipe the sweat off your skin you are removing these toxins and stopping your skin from reabsorbing them back into the body. The other thing to think about is ensuring that your skin can breathe – so avoiding fake tan or moisturiser before your sauna will allow your sweat to be productive.
One study examined the sweat of sauna users, and these were the different toxins that were found in the sweat.
- Mercury
- Lead
- Arsenic
- Cadmium
- Bisphenol A: BPA is an endocrine-disrupting chemical found in some plastics and personal care products
- Phthalates: Another group of endocrine-disrupting chemicals found in plastics and personal care products
- Organophosphate Pesticides: A type of pesticide metabolites found in foods we eat.
Regular use of Infrared Saunas can help to eliminate these toxic chemicals from our bodies and lead to a healthier, happier you.
Will you wipe your sweat off during your next Sauna?
At pH Clinic your sauna appointment window is 60 mins, and in that time we offer two very intentional sauna protocols for time vs temperature to help you gain the most out of your experience, and most importantly experience what is best for YOUR body.
PROTOCOL 1: 50-55 DEGREES FOR 45 MINS
Benefits: Detoxification of toxins and heavy metals, fat loss, mental health support assisting in reducing anxiety, depression and stress, hangover and jet lag recovery, autoimmune boost and not to mention time out in your day just for you!
What you want to be seeking to achieve for this time and temp setting is a beading sweat maintained for 40 minutes. Once the beading sweat appears on the skin, you may need to lower the heat to ensure the body does not begin water dumping, including the loss of important minerals. This can lead you to feeling nauseated and give you a headache.
If you are recovering from illness or cold and flu, an even lower temperature of 45-48 degrees is recommended for gentle and effective detox and recovery.
AFTERCARE SUPPLEMENTS & SUPPORT: Binders such as bentonite clay, charcoal or chlorella to help bind any remaining toxins. Chlorophyll for rehydration and drinking clean, structured water like spring water or Kangen Water. Not all water is created equally. To learn more about Kangen Water and how it can help you please check out our water wellness page on our website.

PROTOCOL 2: 60-65 DEGREES FOR 20-30 MINS
Benefits: Muscle recovery, soothe joint pain, detox of deep plastics and heavy metals, energising and restorative.
This initiates heat shock proteins that cause watery sweat that requires a shower afterwards. It is important to note that when you sauna at higher temperatures, the time should be shorter so as to avoid any light headedness or overheating. I personally find a shorter hotter sauna leaves me feeling more energised and uplifted, not to mention I get a really good sweat on! Also bang for your buck with health benefits vs time management in this busy modern world.
AFTERCARE SUPPLEMENTS & SUPPORT: Antioxidants and minerals such as magnesium, vitamin A, C, D, E and K and of course quality water.
