I don’t know about you but I love a top tip or life hack to keep my world turning. In these colder months as illnesses are more prevalent with colds and flus there are some very simple things you can do to keep your immune system strong, your stress levels low and your body functioning in an optimal manner.
1. Purchase or make your own quality bone broth. It is rich in vitamins and minerals and is a must have for optimal gut health. This in turn has a positive impact on the immune system and can aid in better quality sleep, greater ease of digestion and a balanced gut microbiome which we all know directly impacts mood and mental health. We stock Gevity RX Bone Broth in the clinic in a range of flavours.
2. Water intake naturally drops off in the cooler months, but is most important to keep the body in optimal shape to fight off bugs, keep inflammation down, and the digestive tract moving along. Keep your intake up by sipping on bone broth, herbal teas or grab a bottle of liquid chlorophyll stocked in the clinic to add 5-15mls to your glass or water bottle. It is a highly mineralised plant extract that assists in alkalising, detoxifying and cleansing your body…and it has a light crisp spearmint taste. We also offer Kangen premium filtered water in the clinic so definitely bring your water bottle to refill on your next visit.
3. Sleep in winter comes easier for most of us. The days are shorter and the weather is cooler. It is naturally a time we turn inwards to rest. Getting enough sleep is crucial to keep your immunity strong. If you have trouble sleeping, try going screen free 2 hours before bed, eating meals a little earlier or a warm bath with a few drops of lavender oil to calm the nervous system. Meditations and/or breath work before bed can help dramatically. There are lots of music playlists now available on your favourite streaming services, or try mediation apps like Insight Timer, Calm or Headspace. An infrared sauna once or twice a week can be an absolute game changer for supporting your sleep.
4. Just Eat Real Food. That’s it! If you can manage to eat real whole foods 80% of the time your body will be receiving the right amounts of vitamins and minerals to thrive. If you would like some guidance or support in this area, book in with our very talented nutritionist Amanda Powell or follow her on Instagram @amandapowell.nutrition
5. Light exposure is critical for the thriving and surviving of all living things. In winter we naturally spend more time indoors, and in this modern world much of our time is in front of screens and under fluro lights. Getting enough natural light or red light is key to recharging our mitochondria (the batteries of our cells) which in turn impacts literally every single function in our bodies. Simply put, not enough light has a negative impact on our overall health and wellbeing. Try popping outside on your lunch break and catching the warm winter sunshine for 10-20 mins, even better if you can watch the sunrise or sunset. If you don’t get much natural light in your day to day routine, please book in for a series of red light therapy sessions which will assist greatly!
6. Biohacking for best health in winter is really as easy as earthing/grounding in nature or using an earthing mat, drinking enough quality water Kangen, opting for an infrared sauna once or twice a week and/or booking in for a full body cryotherapy session and the right light exposure. pH Clinic is your foundational health pillar to support you not only in the winter months – but always.
