Our Community – Meet Hayley

We are lucky enough to have an incredible tribe surrounding us at the clinic. Staff, clients, friends and family all with SO many inspiring stories to share.

Like so many of the pH Community, Hayley has grown up on the Northern beaches and enjoys the beach, wine, cheese and socialising. Hayley works in corporate HR and has suffered generalised anxiety disorder for years. This teamed up with some gut issues is what started her on her journey to being more health conscious.

Rewind

About 5 years ago, Hayley was suffering excessive bloating (even without food), pain & constipation. Her overall mood was bad and she was feeling extremely unmotivated. Hayley decided to go and see a Naturopath to help her. Turns out she was dealing with a bad case of Candida. She was put on a plan of healthy eating, herbs and supplements which helped her in the short term. Since then she has been much more aware of the affect the gut can have on health.

So what is Candida?

Candida lives throughout our bodies in small amounts: in our mouth, digestive tract, gut microbiome, and vaginal tract. Its job is to aid with digestion and nutrient absorption—which it does when it’s in balance with the good bacteria in your microbiome. When everything is in balance, the body is in harmony and runs smoothly.

The problem occurs when there is too much Candida in relation to your body’s good bacteria, and it overpowers the bacteria, which can lead to leaky gut and a host of other digestive issues, as well as fungal infections, mood swings, and brain fog. A huge percentage of patients who have autoimmunity disorders, leaky gut, heavy metal toxicity etc – have candida overgrowth. It can be extremely disruptive to your health. Most candida overgrowth is not recognised by conventional medicine.

Discovering Colonic Hydrotherapy

In October last year Hayley booked in to have a lymphatic drainage massage and spoke with one of our therapists Nicola about some new symptoms she was having. She was extremely tired and lethargic and was suffering extreme thirst (even after drinking 6 litres of water a day). Nicola’s first thought was that Hayley may be pre-diabetic but after more detective work suspected that her Gut wall was so putrid and therefore dysfunctional that she could not absorb water properly. She suggested Hayley come in for a colonic. Funnily enough there was an appointment available that day. Hayley was extremely hesitant and scared and while she had friends who had done it before it seemed like a foreign thing to even think about let alone do!

Hayley hated her first experience. “In hindsight feels as though it was more of a mental challenge, sitting in a room with a stranger having a new procedure. My body was tense, I was not comfortable. I wasn’t really releasing and didn’t really have an optimal result”.

“My friend who had been coming asked me how it was, I told her I didn’t like it. I didn’t feel good and my bloating was still there. My friend convinced me to try one more time – so I did.

10 days later Hayley reluctantly returned… She now knew what to expect, so she wasn’t as tense, released more and was definitely more comfortable during the treatment. “After my treatment I had SO much energy and an instant shift of mood. I felt more balanced and calm – it’s really hard to even describe”.

Hayley is now having colonics frequently (fortnightly or monthly as maintenance). She is still drinking a lot of water but her thirst is improving. She was previously on medication for her anxiety and hasn’t been taking them for a few months now and feeling fine. “my stomach was extremely reactive to work stress”.

“When your body starts responding to the treatment, you see how much stuff your body isn’t getting rid of on its own. I have great motility and go to the toilet daily and still have massive releases. It is so satisfying to see the toxic stuff coming out of your body. My body is now so familiar with the process it releases from the first fill and knows when the colonic has done its job and toxins released. I get an ache in my arms followed shortly by pins and needles in my hands and my tolerance for fills gets much less. This is how the therapist and I know i’m done. I recently did a cleanse and was eating very well, not drinking, being strict and so thought I wouldn’t have big releases.. I ended up having the biggest release, I was surprised!

“My Advice to anyone deciding to try colonics is PERSEVERE. Your body will get used to it and be so much better for it. The outcome is so great! I now have no bloating, my mood is so much better, thirst decreased and just overall much healthier and balanced. I have had 3-4 different therapists now and everyone makes you feel so comfortable – there is literally nothing they haven’t seen”.

Needless to say, Hayley is stoked she came in for that Lymphatic drainage massage that day and given the results she has had will no doubt continue on her journey to health and be a long time friend of the clinic.
