The Sound That Heals: Why the FDA Just Proved What Ancient Healers Always Knew

For years, if you suggested that sound could heal the body, you’d have been met with a raised eyebrow. Nice for relaxation, sure. But medicine? That was the domain of scalpels, chemicals and radiation.

Then, quietly, the most conventional authority in the world changed the story.

In late 2023, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration authorised a technology called Histotripsy, a treatment that destroys tumours using nothing but focused sound waves. No incisions. No needles. No radiation. No chemotherapy. Just precisely targeted acoustic energy, delivered from outside the body.

Let that sink in. The gold standard of Western medicine, the same institutional framework that spent the last century dismissing “frequency healing” as fringe has now approved sound itself as a tool to destroy cancer.

How it works

The system, called the Edison platform, was pioneered over two decades at the University of Michigan. A physician maps the exact location of a tumour, then delivers concentrated, pulsed ultrasound waves to that precise point. Those waves create microscopic “bubble clouds” inside the tissue bubbles that form and collapse in millionths of a second, generating a mechanical force strong enough to break the tumour apart at a cellular level.

What makes it remarkable isn’t only that it works. It’s how clean it is. Because the process is purely mechanical rather than thermal, the surrounding healthy tissue is left largely untouched. Many patients go home the same day. Compared to the physical toll of surgery, chemo and radiation treatments that can sometimes feel as punishing as the disease, this is a profound shift in what cancer care can look like.

It’s currently approved for liver tumours, with kidney and pancreas applications already in development. By 2024, close to a thousand patients had been treated, and eight of the top ten cancer centres in America had adopted the technology.

Why this matters far beyond Oncology

Here at pH, we’re not an oncology clinic, and histotripsy is a hospital procedure worlds away from anything we offer. So why are we so moved by this news?

Because of what it represents.

For thousands of years, cultures across the world understood the body as a vibrational instrument, something that responds to sound and frequency. The ancient Greeks prescribed tones for healing. The great cathedrals were built as resonant chambers. Then, about a century ago, that entire worldview was pushed aside, dismissed as unscientific, and all but erased.

And now? The most rigorous scientific institutions on earth are proving it right, not with candles and incense, but with clinical trials, FDA panels and the top cancer centres in the world.

This is the vindication. The pendulum is swinging back. What our ancestors knew intuitively, science is now confirming precisely: the body responds to frequency, and sound is medicine.

Histotripsy sits at the extreme, therapeutic, surgical end of that spectrum. At the other end sits something far gentler, the use of low frequency sound and vibration to calm the nervous system, ease tension, and guide the body into the deep rest state where it restores itself. Different tools, different intensities, entirely different purposes. But the same underlying truth runs through all of it: we are vibrational beings, and frequency moves us.

The Future is Frequency

We built the Sound Lounge at pH because we believe this is where health is heading. Not as a replacement for anything but as a return to something we forgot we ever had. A way to work with the body’s own intelligence, using the oldest medicine there is.

The FDA didn’t set out to validate ancient wisdom. But that’s exactly what it did.

The world is finally listening. And frequency, it turns out, was never fringe. It was just ahead of its time.

Curious to experience the gentler end of the spectrum for yourself? The Sound Lounge — Australia’s first inHarmony vibroacoustic experience — is open now and included in every pH membership.
